Sciatic Nerve Pain Relief Guide

Wednesday Oct 19, 2011

Sciaitic nerve pain is a debilitating condition and recovery could be a long and slow process. First step in the road to recovery is to consult a medical specialist to confirm what the root cause of the pain is. If it is sciatic nerve pain then a treatment plan would need to be devised. It more often than not will involve consulting a physiotherapist. Their job is to advise an exercise routine which will relax and tone the muscles and strengthen the core.

The doctor, depending on the cause of the pain, may prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs. Along with the oral medication, physical break is necessary as well and generally, a few days bed rest may be recommended. This although may seem impossible but is a crucial step for the patient to move towards recovery. This is also, a time for reflection as to what led to this state, how to get Sciatic nerve pain relief and then how to prevent this from happening again.

Once the medication starts to kick in and swelling recedes, comes the time for gently nudging the body into physically active state. This process cannot be rushed. Like an injured dog, application of force will have an opposite and harmful impact. So being gentle is the only way out of it and also, exercise here doesn’t mean once a day routine. It needs to be in the form of gentle, relaxing movements with frequent breaks throughout the day to relax the clamped and tightened muscles.

Gradually, the body itself will reveal that it is ready for a little more. This will be the time to step it up a bit further and add some activity to strengthen the body and to have a little more flexibility in muscles. It cannot be emphasised enough that one must never push him/herself into a state where muscles might go into a spasm and pain may be felt. Recovery is a slow process. The body needs time to get back to its normal state and rushing for Sciatic nerve pain relief at any stage could result in pain even worse than before.

Sciaitic nerve pain is incapacitating yet it is nothing one cannot get rid of through commitment to taking care of themselves in a gentle and patient manner.
